MYPals
- Ongoing
Have you ever wanted to change a
life?
MYPals mentoring is a powerful avenue to provide positive
personal contacts for students at Samoset Elementary, our pilot school for
Winter/Spring 2006. Mentors act as role models to motivate students’
behavior and academics. As mentors, MYP members will share their
experiences with a young person and open a new world of possibilities together.
Through MYPals, MYP members will be matched with one child in
grades 2, 3 4 or 5. The program is friendship-based and designed for one
hour per week, during school hours, on the Samoset campus engaging in tutoring,
playing, talking, etc. Mentors may choose to play outside games
such as soccer, shoot hoops, or use the playground equipment, or they may
choose inside activities such as arts and crafts, using the computer for games,
or just “hanging out.” The MYPals Liaison is always on campus and
available to answer any questions, help mentors come up with activity ideas,
and assist with any concerns.
A full orientation and training will
be conducted for all mentors in January at Samoset Elementary.
If you are interested in becoming a MYPals Mentor… and are a MYP
member, please send an email to
MYPals.
We will send you a information/registration form. A
background check is required.
Through our membership survey MYP members indicated
that youth was the area in which our members wanted more involvement
opportunities. MYPals is our first step... Sign up to be a mentor today!
