Community Service

Monthly MYP Projects

MYP sets an ambitious calendar of community service projects for our members. All projects are open to all MYP members... and many projects required only a willingness to serve. Please review the list below and let us know which you would like to assist by sending us an email .

In addition, MYP has committed to assisting local non-profit organizations recruit new talent and leadership for their boards, committees, initiatives and events. Any organization may post their leadership openings by accessing the posting tool and entering information... and, any MYP member may inquire about the position through the posting tool... it's as simple as that!

 

 

2010 MYP PROJECTS

  • Salvation Army - February 1-5, May 3-7, August 2-6 and November 1-5  - MYP serves the dinner meal at the Salvation Army for one week each quarter. MYP volunteers work from 4:30-6:30 PM with food and table preparation and food service. Members are asked to wear comfortable clothes and encouraged to wear a ball-cap or similar head covering.

  • Better Manatee Day  -  March 13  -  Join hundreds of volunteers from across Manatee County in a one-day project to beautify Norma Lloyd Park. MYP members will contribute their time to one of the largest one-day volunteer efforts in Manatee County... and receive a tshirt, too.

  • MYPals Mentor for a Day Luncheon - April 20 from 11:00-1:30  -  Have you ever wanted to change a life?  This sell-out luncheon pairs MYP members with students from 5th grade classes at Samoset Elementary School for an exciting, meaningful mentoring opportunity.  The students come to the luncheon fresh off of an "etiquette and manners" course and are eager to practice their new skills. MYP members provide their enthusiasm and encouragement and cover the cost of their lunch as well as a student's lunch. Corporate sponsorships available!

  • 13th Ave. Community Center Bookfest  -  April 24  -  Spend the day playing games, creating arts and craft masterpieces and helping kids discover the joy of reading. MYP will man a game/craft booth at Bookfest and spend a fun-filled day with the children at the 13th Ave. Community Center. Sponsorships available!

  • Habitat for Humanity - Date in May TBA  -  MYP members help with the multitude of tasks associated with building Habitat homes in Manatee County. These Saturday work sessions being at 8:00 AM and conclude at noon. MYP members are asked to wear comfortable clothing and close-toed shoes. All construction supplies are provided, as are water and snacks.

  • Florida Coastal Clean-Up  -  October Date TBA  -  Our beaches are a major component of the quality of life we enjoy here in Florida. Join MYP in helping keep our beaches beautiful with a morning beach clean-up project. All volunteers receive a tshirt, too!

  • United Way Day of Caring  -  December Date TBA  -  MYP volunteers will show that they care about our community by volunteering at local nonprofit organizations and public schools to tackle meaningful volunteer projects.
